dc.description.abstract This chapter emphasizes the regional and local level coastal vulnerability studies due to sea level rise and the subsequent coastal inundation along the low-lying coastal areas using the advanced geo-spatial technologies. Natural hazards such as storm surges, tsunami, thermal expansion of seawater due to climate change-induced global warming, and melting of continental glaciers tend to increase the sea level. Coastal zones are the potential hot spots where the climate change effects are seen immediately. Remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) are efficient tools to extract the potential inundation zones. In this chapter, sea level rise scenarios for 1 and 2 m for central Orissa coast, India, are explained. Quantification of potential habitat loss was made by merging the land use/land cover (LU/LC) prepared from the satellite imagery with the digital elevation model (DEM). The probable inundation limits are estimated for two sea level rise scenarios. Land use/land cover maps and digital elevation model (DEM) were used to derive inundation areas. The results show that the areas likely to be lost to a sea level rise of 1 and 2 m are 478 km<sup>2</sup> and 1,128 km<sup>2</sup>, respectively, at Paradip area (i.e., central Orissa coast, India). As this chapter reveals the extent of inundation, it helps to develop adaptation and mitigation measures in those areas for sea level rise problems. The results support the decision makers in the spatial identification of the areas for the future.
