dc.description.abstractMine rejects, organic effluents and domestic sewage are the three main items discharged in the Mandovi Estuary, Goa, India. Their impact on the benthic life was studied. Benthic samples in this estuary were collected at monthly intervals using van Veen grab of 0.04 m super(2) and Meiofauna by means of a core tube of 4.5 cm inner diameter. The course for decline in the benthic productivity were attributed to the bioturbation of the sediment due to settlement of mine rejects and standard excavation. Heavy loss and extinction in estuarine life is predicted if the human interference is not minimized
