Mets system is basically a gas monitoring system, used for the detection of underwater gas. The system consists of a sensor, datalogger and energy module. The sensor works on the diffusion techniques. The system can be deployed to a water depth of 2000 m. During the 76th cruise of CRV Sagar Shukti off cape Rama, the system was operated and the sensor response in millivolts (voltage values) gave good results. In this report, the deployment procedure and debugging techniques, essential for the easy operation of the system are described. Some of the necessary scientific modifications for the instrument are also suggested, which makes easier for locating the methane concentration variations with respect to depth and geographic positions.
