A marine meteorological data acquisition system has been developed for long term unattended measurements at remote coastal sites, ocean surface platforms and for use on board research vessels. The system has an open and modular configuration and was interfaced to a variety of sensors to assess relative performance of vector averaged winds, gusts, air temperature and barometric pressure. The inter-comparison of field data obtained from various sensors and their laboratory calibration were carried out to examine their performance. The results showed that adequately sampled and vector averaged winds recordEd. by Aanderaa and Young sensor were in good agreement. Their energy density spectra showed a close match although overspeeding upto 10% was observed for Aanderaa sensor depending on the terbulence level
