During the southwest monsoon beach sediments on the western coast of Kavaratti are transported from the southern tip of the island to its northern tip. After the monsoon the littoral current reverses and the redistribution of the sediments takes place gradually. However it is observed that during the period of study complete recovery of the beach material is not taking place
