A third mysis and a late postlarva of the genus Trachypenaeopsis are described and illustrated here for the first time, from the eastern Indian Ocean. Only two specimens were obtained for the present study, from a total collection of 1927 IIOE samples. Only three species of the genus, Trachypenaeopsis are hitherto known, of which, two are from the Indo-Pacific and the third one, from the Atlantic. Diagnostic features of the postlarvae of Trachypenaeopsis include, a relatively short rostrum, well developed and stout antennal spine, exopods on all walking legs and a median acicular spine on the telson. A comparison of characters found in the late mysis stage of Trachypenaeopsis, Penaeopsis and Atypopenaeus is also made
