Les formations volcano-sedimentaires de la marge de la Guadeloupe (Petites antilles): Etudes mineralogique et geochimique
Abstract
This memoir summarises results of cores collected in the archipelago of Guadeloupe during the expedition 'ANTIVOLC 81'. This mission had several objectives: survey of structural and geomorphological features of the insular margins; identification of traces of volcanic eruptions in the sedimentary column; correlation of volcanogenic deposits with known volcanic episodes on the island; impact of volcanism on insular margin sedimentation. This thesis deals with the last three objectives. The main topics include: sedimentological characteristics of cores from different morphostructural settings, petrochemical analyses of volcanic sands with the aim of a tephrochronological correlation, mineralogical analyses of pelitic fraction, geochemistry of elements and sedimentary processes which govern the formation of carbonate, siliciclastic and volcanogenic deposits on the insular margins of Guadeloupe
