Comment on "Evaluation of dechlorination mechanisms during anaerobic fermentation of bleached kraft mill effluent", is put forth. The data reproduced in Table 1 does not seem to be authentic as the method of preprationo of the chlorinated organic matter is not efficient enough to produce good recovery of organochlorine compounds. There is no indication of proper standardisation of the method of elution of the organochlorine compounds adsorbed on the surface of the resins. Recovery method of organochlorine compounds from the effluent is not an efficient one. The actual mechanism of dechlorination of the organochlorine compounds is not justified. No supporting data was provided for nucleophilic substitution. Nothing has been mentioned about the electrode potential of the reaction medium. The sulfide concentration was not measured but tried to evaluate the mechanisms of dechlorination of the organochlorine compounds on the basis of stoichiometric reduction of the initial concentration of sulfate
